Medical Scare – Two

Medical Scare – Two

During the 30th week of pregnancy, we travelled to our native and many religious places, during the travel my wife developed cough and it got suppressed when we were back to our home. However, there were some instances where she used to still get cough.

We visited our care provider during 32nd week of pregnancy, we did not inform that we are travelling to Kochi for natural birthing. One day she asked “Baby, where are you planning your birth?” We said, we will be travelling to our native for delivery. She asked, “Baby, any how it will be C-Section, since the first one was C-Section. You are going to be full term by coming weeks (36th week), you decide the date I will deliver your baby here itself.” We just said, let’s see but we may travel in next 20 days to our native may be it is impossible and my wife mentioned about irregular cough.

Our care provider was like, “Oh! Cough, this is very serious, we need to give immediately steroids baby, and you get this injection now and one more after 24 hrs.”

We were scared, by hearing the word “steroids,” we told we don’t want steroids since cough is irregular. She said “No baby, it is very serious and is very normal to give steroids, don’t worry”

We just nodded that we will get the steroids and came outside the consultation room, I told my wife and nurse that I will buy this steroids from pharmacy, you wait near lobby. Immediately I told in my mother tongue “I will bring my car from parking, you come to the front gate.”

We just ran from the hospital and informed Birth Village about the same, Priyanka called back instantly and explained the need of steroids and its pros and cons and educated us that, at the moment it may not be required.

Also, we visited our colleague’s friend who is a famous Doctor (OBG) and she also said, steroids are not required in your case, sometimes it is required for other mothers, but in your case everything is normal.

Cough completely suppressed by 36th week and we had a natural birth at 38th week.

From GOOGLE Doctor: Steroids make baby lungs to grow faster and help in preterm birth. Was she making sure my wife delivers at her center?

Birth Village – The Natural Birthing Centre

Birth Village – The Natural Birthing Centre I did not want to listen about Birth Village, I never heard of this, I was not ready to take any chance. But she insisted to read birth stories on Facebook, she made me to like their page. I tried to read few stories, but not much help, my mind was completely fenced and I was not able to understand the terms on the stories, like midwifery, doula, VBAC etc. (To make your life simple, I have added this definitions section in the beginning of the book, thank me later J ) Nudges from her made me to read few stories, see Birth Village website. She explained we needed to register there at least by 25-28 weeks of pregnancy and we need to shift to Kochi by 36 th week and stay there for 4 to 6 weeks after birth (i.e., total 4 to 8 weeks of stay in Kochi). I was just nodding my head. Her 22 nd week was coinciding with her birthday, so I thought it is better to plan a babymoon and her birthday celebration in Kochi and also visit Birth ...

D-Day (Delivery/Birth)

D-Day (Delivery/Birth) During 36 th week we got a checklist “what to bring with you to Birth Village,” on the day of Birthing. We should prepare three bags - Mamma’s bag, Baby’s bag and additional (miscellaneous bag). You would be curious to know the list of items on the additional bag. It consists of essential oil, fruits, dried fruits, nuts, tender coconuts, honey, dates, chocolate and tripod of videography, music system, candles, and favorite pictures religious or otherwise that make you feel comfortable at home. As I mentioned, Birth Village is a home with caring hearts, on the day of your delivery you can organize the room as you want it to be. Dim lights, fragrance from essential oils and music of your choice will make you calm and relaxing. We use to visit Birth Village every day after water trickle incident for fetal monitoring and regular blood tests. On Sunday mid-night, my wife started feeling a labor pain with intervals of 5-10 min. She performed pelvic m...

Tips To Fathers

Tips To Fathers Father and mother equally share the responsibility of birthing. Mother shall take care of physical wellbeing by following the health regime. Father shall provide peace of mind by supporting and understanding. Read, discuss with experts, consult and improve your confidence on natural birthing, once mother and father are confident, mutually no one stop you from reaching the goal. Friends and Relatives react: Yes, our mind is still fenced with the thought that natural birth is difficult and VBAC is impossible etc… but as a father you can do all the answering or/and shield the mother from different thoughts and distress. Hormone changes: due to hormonal changes mother may react in a different way, keep calm and react assertively. Treat her like a child. Use apps/reminders and check on the proper intake of food and supplements to meet the daily requirements. Join daily for a walk. During that year, shift your focus on mother and baby, of-course work and other ...
