Support and Care

We reached Birth Village directly from the Hospital, we got an appointment with Donna Mitchell since Priyanka was attending active labor. Even during the active labor, she attended our call and listened to our horror story at Hospital, and she asked to visit Birth Village. We had our discussion with Donna, and she was already appraised about our incident and she was very calm and she informed to take Antibiotic IV to avoid any infection due to internal examination and to drink plenty of water and tender coconut to refill the water lost due to trickle discharge. She suggested taking pro-biotic with curd to improve good bacteria lost due to antibiotic.

We continued our routine evening walk (~45min) and monitored the movements of baby, every day we use to visit Birth Village for fetal monitoring for 30-40 minutes. One day we were counselled by Priyanka on pros & cons of waiting for natural labor or to go for C-section. We opted to wait for few days and during every visit we were given enough care and support by Birth Village Team (Admin, Doula/Nurse/Midwife, Chechi.)

As predicted, pain started after few days and my wife had a natural labor.

Birth Village – The Natural Birthing Centre

Birth Village – The Natural Birthing Centre I did not want to listen about Birth Village, I never heard of this, I was not ready to take any chance. But she insisted to read birth stories on Facebook, she made me to like their page. I tried to read few stories, but not much help, my mind was completely fenced and I was not able to understand the terms on the stories, like midwifery, doula, VBAC etc. (To make your life simple, I have added this definitions section in the beginning of the book, thank me later J ) Nudges from her made me to read few stories, see Birth Village website. She explained we needed to register there at least by 25-28 weeks of pregnancy and we need to shift to Kochi by 36 th week and stay there for 4 to 6 weeks after birth (i.e., total 4 to 8 weeks of stay in Kochi). I was just nodding my head. Her 22 nd week was coinciding with her birthday, so I thought it is better to plan a babymoon and her birthday celebration in Kochi and also visit Birth ...

D-Day (Delivery/Birth)

D-Day (Delivery/Birth) During 36 th week we got a checklist “what to bring with you to Birth Village,” on the day of Birthing. We should prepare three bags - Mamma’s bag, Baby’s bag and additional (miscellaneous bag). You would be curious to know the list of items on the additional bag. It consists of essential oil, fruits, dried fruits, nuts, tender coconuts, honey, dates, chocolate and tripod of videography, music system, candles, and favorite pictures religious or otherwise that make you feel comfortable at home. As I mentioned, Birth Village is a home with caring hearts, on the day of your delivery you can organize the room as you want it to be. Dim lights, fragrance from essential oils and music of your choice will make you calm and relaxing. We use to visit Birth Village every day after water trickle incident for fetal monitoring and regular blood tests. On Sunday mid-night, my wife started feeling a labor pain with intervals of 5-10 min. She performed pelvic m...

Medical Scare – One

Medical Scare – One Once Dr. B.M. Hegde told, the leading cause of death are 1. Modern Medical treatment 2. Heart attack 3. Cance r He terms Medical Care System to Medical Scare System during his speeches, and he explains how modern technology has created patients for a lifetime I am sharing three medical scary stories throughout this book. Medical scare –one: Flash back to 2013, we were expecting a baby and my wife completed 36 weeks of pregnancy without any complication. We were expecting a “normal delivery.” During one of the regular checkups our care provider told to my wife that the baby head circumference is more (37cm), and weight is more (3.3kg), and considering your height (160cm) normal delivery is impossible. We were shattered by the news, we met head of the department (OBG) unsurprisingly, and she also informed the same and scarred us more. We were nearing to our EDD (Expected Date of Delivery), we were not knowing that nature does not have EDD, la...
